My Adventures in Sacramento
My adventures in Sacramento started Friday at the airport. I couldn't find my sister, who was suppose to be there to greet me. I haven't seen her in about 14 years and of course that is the picture that was in my mind's eye. Needless to say, I had walked by her at least a dozen times and neither of us recognized each other.
Saturday I met up with 2 members of HPI of Sacramento. This is the largest group of paranormal investigators on the west coast. They also have offices in San Luis Obispo and also in Michigan. I met with Paul Dale Roberts first. He picked me up at my sister's house. Paul is the general manager of HPI and also their ghost writer. Paul is a free lance writer, I have read many of his articles and they are wonderful. He is also a bit of a history buff. He is wonderful, very intelligent, informative, and one of the nicest people I have ever met. I was so glad that I had emailed their group! Some groups don't like to share their haunts or work with other groups, so I am so appreciative to HPI for their welcome.
We then went to pick up Chantal an investigator with HPI. Chantal is so bubbly, personable and funny. I just loved her. We started the day in Old Sacramento (Old Sac). This is just a wonderful little piece of history right in the middle of Sacramento. The intriguing thing about Old Sac is that it is a city built on top of the original settlement. Sacramento was built along the Sacramento river. They had suffered from some devastating floods in the early years so they decided to raise the street level. They built the new city on top of the old one! Beneath the city streets lie tunnels and old store fronts. So the basements of the buildings there now, were the original first floors of the old buildings. It is said that even the homeless won't stay in the tunnels, that the rats and the ghosts chase them out.
We then went to Fanny Ann's Saloon. Talk about the old west, it was just awesome. It has 3 floors. It is said that there was a saloon girl there named Angie, who was engaged. She was very flirtatious with the gentlemen customers and one day her fiance caught her in the act and shot her dead. She is said to haunt the saloon. While there, Chantal and I both had to go outside, we both felt anxious and a bit nauseous.
We then took a walking tour of Old Sac. Paul told us the history of the haunting's of many of the buildings. I took tons of pictures hoping to capture an entity. No such luck. We also ventured aboard the Delta King, an old paddle wheel river boat, sitting right on the river. It now is a hotel, theatre, and dining establishment.

Next they took me to some of the local haunted houses. I had forgotten that Sacramento was home to 2 serial killers! Richard Trenton Chase, the vampire of Sacramento and Dorthea Puente the little old lady who met old homeless men in a bar close to her boarding house. She would entice them to live there and then convince them to sign over their social security checks. She then killed them and buried them around her yard. In seeing how close the houses are there and what little yard she actually had, I was amazed that no one saw her!
One of the last places on my tour was the Martinez House. I had read Paul's article about this place and seen some pictures on the web. I was so excited when I saw it for myself. Believe me when I say this mansion came right out of a horror movie or at least it should have!! Even the color of the house is foreboding. The gargoyles add to the creepiness. I just got a weird feeling from the place. The last person to live there ran out of the house, packed up and left the house abandoned, with all the antique furnishings.
The current owner has it gated, with security cameras all over the place, you can still see some of the antiques through the windows. The current owner also does not live in the house but leaves it abandoned. Hey man, open it up to us ghost hunters, charge us $100 a pop it would be worth it!!

The last thing I did on my haunted journey was to investigate a haunted private residence. Of course I had the usual, "I know someone is here" feeling, so I decided to do a little EVP work. I did get some responses that were easy to hear and many that sounded like a lot of chatter. Like many people talking but no one being loud enough for a clear voice. Some of my pictures have orbs and I have yet to look at the little bit of video that I took. All in all I got my ghost fix!
I would like to extend my gratitude to HPI of Sacramento for sharing their haunted locations with me and the opportunity to do a full investigation. I would especially like to thank Paul and Chantal! I hope that if I ever have the opportunity to visit California again, that I will be able to hook up with them!
In closing I had a wonderful time and I would like to include pictures of my wonderful hosts, Chantal and Paul. These pictures were taken at Sutter Fort.
